Six things you might not know about me…
My most annoying habit is checking my morning alarm multiple times before going to sleep…just to make sure it’s on.
Not many people know this about me, but before deciding to pursue music as a career, I originally planned to study English and wanted to write my own book!
My celebrity crush is Jake Johnson – aka Nick from New Girl!
The place I’m dying to visit one day is London, because my aunt and uncle live there!
When I’m not performing, I really enjoy reading, painting and hiking.
If I could meet any fictional character in real life, I’d love to meet Casper the Friendly Ghost because he was my imaginary friend when I was little.
Twelve songs that have influenced my life and career…
Box #10 – Jim Croce
Jim Croce has become one of my favorite artists within the past few years. I’ve taken a lot of time to learn about his career, and I admire him so much as an artist. I love the simplicity and storytelling in his music. My favorite record of his is “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim.”
Those Sweet Words – Norah Jones
I didn’t get into Norah’s music until college, but I really resonated with her albums “Feels Like Home” and “Come Away With Me.” These records were very influential when creating my upcoming EP.
Are We There Yet? – Ingrid Michaelson
Ingrid Michaelson was my favorite artist throughout high school, and her honest and quirky writing in her first few albums really inspired my writing style.
Forever Blue – Kina Grannis
Kina Grannis was another one of my favorite artists in high school. I would sit for hours in my bedroom watching her YouTube videos. Her music is always so honest and authentic, which is something I strive for in my own music.
Stop This Train – John Mayer
This song inspired the guitar part for “Brooklyn Park.” I was learning it on guitar at the time, and wanted to write my own song with the same picking style.
Honey Bee – Zee Avi
“Honey Bee” was one of the first songs I ever learned on guitar, and I played it often when I first started performing.
Manhattan – Sara Bareilles
Sara Bareilles is another one of my favorite artists. I worked on this song in my vocal lessons in college and it taught me how important it is to sing with feeling.
Vienna – Billy Joel
Billy Joel is one of my favorite songwriters, and while I love so many of his songs, this is probably my favorite. I resonant with this song a lot as an independent artist trying to find my way.
Next Year – Donovan Woods
“Next Year” is one of my favorite songs and one I wish I would’ve written. I’ve listened to it so many times and I’m still left at the end thinking wow, how can I write a song like that?
Last of My Kind – Jason Isbell
Jason Isbell is an incredible songwriter that has inspired my own writing, and this is my favorite song of his. It feels so personal while still easily relatable.
A Case of You – Joni Mitchell
The first time I heard “A Case of You” was in one of my songwriting classes and I was in awe of Joni Mitchell’s writing style.
That Old Black Magic – Ella Fitzgerald
Ella Fitzgerald is one of my favorite vocalists of all-time, and this song has played a big role in my musical journey. I’ve always admired Ella’s vocal technique and try to incorporate it into my own voice. I auditioned for Berklee College of Music with this song!
